Toluene combustion on Pd and Pt catalysts supported on γ-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3-Ce

For Pd/γ-Al2O3-Ce catalysts the toluene combustion activity depended on the presence of Pd0/Pd2+ species.
On Pt/γ-Al2O3-Ce catalysts, Pt0 was the only detected species, which favored the demethylation of toluene.
For both series of Pd and Pt catalysts, the deposit of carbon on the metal decreased as the cerium oxide increased due to their redox properties.
