The average equations for oxygen separation in a shell and tube permeator were developed.
The equations are expressed in terms of effective-medium coefficients that capture the essential features of the microscale and can be computed analytically.
When comparing the concentration profiles with direct numerical simulations it was noted that the average model is valid if the imposed assumptions and constraints are respected.
The derived model will be used in future works for comparison with experimental data.
