Hydrodynamic characteristics of the industrial stirred tank bioreactor

  • The bioreactor CFD model adequately predicts the velocity field of the liquid phase.

  • The mixing time predicted by the bioreactor CFD model corresponds itself with the experimental.

  • The bioreactor operating conditions are characterized by a low air dispersion capacity.

  • There are predicted regions in the bioreactor with poor oxygen transfer consistent with the flooding phenomenon detected.

  • For operating conditions without aeration a flow pattern of perfect mix for the liquid phase was obtained.
