The antioxidant defense in plants: A key tool for phytoremediation

  • A review about phytoremediation as a viable alternative for treating contaminated soils polluted with organic compounds during the last decade was carried out.

  • The relation between the activation of antioxidant mechanisms that prevent oxidative stress as well as the capacity of a plant to support the presence of contaminants is revised.

  • The revision relies upon recent references and original schemes that facilitate the understanding of key processes in phytoremediation.
